Few cotton ginners understand the meaning of the word "dry" like those who gin in the southwestern United States. Dry, windy conditions, high temperatures, and bad water supplies combine to create a challenge for the cotton ginner managing his moist air system. The Humidaire Southwest was designed specifically to address these needs. The Humidaire Southwest is the first "on-line" Humidaire Unit. This means that the ginner does not need to turn off the unit to inspect the water tank and the condition of the water. He can even add treatment chemicals during operation and watch the effect on the spray chamber, nozzles, and water tank. A hydrocyclone (the red device in above photo) provides continuous water purification to virtually eliminate sand, grit, and other solids in the water system. A 7-1/2 horsepower motor drives a cast stainless steel pump. In the desert southwest, daytime temperatures climb well above 110F. For this reason, we take the high pressure spray from this pump and mix it directly with the flame to provide an impressive moist air output in even the hottest ambient ginning temperatures. Controls are identical to the model HU-60-1455 gas-fired Humidaire Unit, complete with color touch screen, water metering, and "speed-o-meter". Below: Water meters report precise water consumption and evaporation to the control system (left). The tank access door is opened to reveal residue from harsh desert water. Continuous filtering prevents this from building up in the spray nozzles and lets the operator treat the water, even during operation (right).
